You run a beauty studio in Styria, alone or with one or two employees. New customers find you through Instagram, recommendations and Google. On your website they want to understand what a treatment does, how long it takes and what it costs. Then they want to book an appointment straight away or give a voucher as a gift. The most common mistake: treatments appear only as technical terms in a price list, often as a photo. Nobody knows whether “microneedling” or “Hydrafacial” suits their skin. So instead of booking, they scroll on. Then there are legal points. Under the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act), Kosmetik (beauty care) is a regulated trade. Your professional title, Landesinnung (regional guild), the reference to the Gewerbeordnung and your trade authority belong in the Impressum (legal notice). If you sell products or vouchers online, the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) also affects you, at least on paper. Here you'll find what your site needs.

Online booking, Selling gift vouchers online, Online shop: Does the Accessibility Act apply?
According to the WKO, online booking, voucher sales and a shop for skincare products aimed at private customers are services in electronic commerce, covered by the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (BaFG, Accessibility Act) since 28 June 2025. As a micro-enterprise with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or annual balance sheet total, you are exempt; the WKO says such shop operators don't have to make their online shop accessible. If you are above these limits, it covers every part of the site used for selling, including the navigation to the shop and the booking.
Common mistakes on beautician websites
- The price list is a photo or PDF. It's barely readable on a mobile.
- Treatments appear only as technical terms, with no duration and no explanation of who they suit.
- You show before-and-after photos without the customer's documented consent.
- Vouchers are only available in the studio, not online.
- The online shop has no clear information on delivery, collection and returns.
- Edited or AI-generated images look like real results.
- Your Impressum (legal notice) is missing the professional title, Landesinnung and the reference to the Gewerbeordnung.

Frequently asked questions
Is Kosmetik an unregulated trade?
No. “Kosmetik (Schönheitspflege)” (beauty care) is listed in § 94 Z 42 of the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and is a regulated trade. To get your trade licence, you need a certificate of competence. In Styria, your interests are represented by the Landesinnung der Fußpfleger, Kosmetiker und Masseure (regional guild of foot care practitioners, beauticians and masseurs) at the WKO. There you can also find out which training is recognised.
Does my online shop for skincare products have to be accessible?
As a micro-enterprise, usually not. An online shop for consumers does fall under the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) since 28 June 2025. However, micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total are exempt for services. The WKO states explicitly that online shop operators who are micro-enterprises don't have to make their online shop accessible.
As a beautician, do I need an Impressum on Instagram?
Yes. According to the WKO, the information requirements of the E-Commerce-Gesetz (E-Commerce Act) apply to every form of electronic content, including social media. The details must be complete on every profile you use to promote your studio. As well as name, address and contact, that includes chamber membership, professional title, a reference to the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and the supervisory authority.
What goes in the Impressum of my beauty salon website?
In addition to name, address, contact and, where applicable, your UID number (VAT ID), § 5 ECG (E-Commerce Act) requires: the chamber you belong to, your professional title and the country in which it was awarded, a reference to the Gewerbeordnung and where to find it, e.g. ris.bka.gv.at, and the supervisory authority. According to the WKO, that's the locally responsible Bezirkshauptmannschaft (district authority) or the Magistrat.
