This page is for you if you run a car repair shop in Austria. Your customers usually search with a specific need: a service is due, tyres need changing, the Pickerl (roadworthiness inspection) is due, the brakes make a noise. Then they want to know whether you do that, when you're open and how quickly they can get an appointment. The most common mistake on garage websites: the Pickerl is advertised prominently without making clear which vehicle classes the business is authorised for under § 57a KFG. Or the opening hours are wrong. Both cost trust and lead to unnecessary calls. The Impressum (legal notice) is often underestimated too. Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (vehicle technology) is a regulated trade. That's why your chamber, professional title, a reference to the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and the supervisory authority belong in it. If you offer online booking, you should also know the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act). Here you'll see which pages your garage website needs and what goes in the Impressum.

Mandatory information for car repair shops
„Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (§ 94 Z 43 GewO 1994: Karosseriebau- und Karosserielackiertechniker; Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (verbundenes Handwerk))“ is a regulated trade (reglementiertes Gewerbe). Responsible body at the Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Commerce): Landesinnung Fahrzeugtechnik der WKO Steiermark (division Gewerbe und Handwerk). On top of the general imprint (Impressum) details, your website needs:
- Chamber membership: Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark (Styrian Chamber of Commerce), Landesinnung (regional guild) Fahrzeugtechnik
- Professional title: Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (trade), awarded in Austria
- Reference to professional regulations: Gewerbeordnung (GewO, Trade Regulation Act), available at www.ris.bka.gv.at
- Supervisory authority: the responsible trade authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat at your location)
- UID number (VAT ID), if you have one; Firmenbuch (company register) number and court, if registered
- Optional: note that you are authorised as an inspection centre under § 57a KFG 1967 (granted by the Landeshauptmann, the state governor)
What else belongs in the imprint depends on your legal form: Impressum (legal notice) for sole traders (EPU) and e.U., Impressum (legal notice) for a GmbH, Disclosure under § 25 MedienG and Impressum under § 24 MedienG.
Online booking: Does the Accessibility Act apply?
Car repair shops often use online booking for servicing, tyre changes or the Pickerl (roadworthiness inspection). According to the WKO, a booking by private customers is a service in electronic commerce and in principle falls under the BaFG (Accessibility Act). As a micro-enterprise (fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in turnover or balance sheet total), you are exempt, according to the Sozialministeriumservice. Check your headcount and your turnover or balance sheet total.
Common mistakes on car repair shop websites
- You advertise the “Pickerl” or “§ 57a” although your business isn't authorised for it, or only for certain vehicle classes.
- Opening hours on your website and in your Google profile don't match.
- The online booking doesn't ask for the model or registration number. You don't know what's coming in.
- You give prices for servicing or the Pickerl without saying whether they include VAT.
- Your Impressum (legal notice) is missing the professional title, chamber or supervisory authority.
- Car manufacturers' logos are splashed across the home page although you aren't an authorised dealer or partner.
- Apprenticeships are missing from the website although you're looking for apprentices.

Frequently asked questions
Can I advertise the Pickerl on my website?
Only if your business is authorised as an inspection centre under § 57a KFG 1967. This authorisation is granted by the Landeshauptmann (state governor). According to the law, car repair workshops are among those eligible, provided they are trustworthy and have suitable staff and equipment. State on your website which vehicle classes your authorisation covers.
Which trade licence do I need for a car repair shop?
Under § 94 Z 43 of the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act), Kraftfahrzeugtechnik (vehicle technology) is a regulated trade, as a linked craft with body building and body painting technicians. You need a certificate of competence. In the Impressum (legal notice), you state your professional title, the country in which it was awarded, the Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Commerce) together with the Landesinnung Fahrzeugtechnik (regional guild) and the trade authority as the supervisory authority.
Does my online booking have to be accessible?
If private customers book an appointment online, the WKO says that is a service in electronic commerce. The Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) has applied to this since 28 June 2025. Micro-enterprises offering services are exempt: fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total. If you're larger, the booking must be accessible. Purely B2B offers, for example only for vehicle fleets, are not covered.
