You run a hair salon in Styria, alone or with a small team. Your customers come through recommendations, Instagram and Google. Before they call, they take a quick look at your website. There they want to find three things: when you're open, what a cut costs and how to get an appointment. This is often where it goes wrong. The price list is a photo of the notice in the salon, barely readable on a mobile. The phone number can't be tapped. And online booking is hidden somewhere right at the bottom. Then there's the Impressum (legal notice): under the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act), Friseur (hairdresser) is a regulated craft. That's why your professional title, Landesinnung (regional guild), the reference to the Gewerbeordnung and your trade authority belong in it. On this page you'll find which subpages a hairdresser's website needs, which mandatory details apply and what the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) means for your booking.

Mandatory information for hairdressers
„Friseur und Perückenmacher (Stylist) (Handwerk) – § 94 Z 22 GewO 1994“ is a regulated trade (reglementiertes Gewerbe). Responsible body at the Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Commerce): Landesinnung der Friseure der WKO Steiermark (division Gewerbe und Handwerk). On top of the general imprint (Impressum) details, your website needs:
- Chamber membership: member of the Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark (Styrian Chamber of Commerce), Landesinnung (regional guild) der Friseure
- Professional title: Friseur or Friseurin (hairdresser), awarded in Austria
- Reference to professional regulations: Gewerbeordnung 1994 (GewO, Trade Regulation Act), available at www.ris.bka.gv.at
- Supervisory authority: the locally responsible trade authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat)
- Optional: state your master craftsman title or qualifying exam
- The same information, complete, on Instagram, Facebook and other profiles too
What else belongs in the imprint depends on your legal form: Impressum (legal notice) for sole traders (EPU) and e.U., Impressum (legal notice) for a GmbH, Impressum (legal notice) on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and co., Disclosure under § 25 MedienG and Impressum under § 24 MedienG.
Online booking, Selling gift vouchers online: Does the Accessibility Act apply?
If your website lets private customers book appointments or buy vouchers online, the WKO says that is in principle a service in electronic commerce under the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (BaFG, Accessibility Act), which has applied since 28 June 2025. As a micro-enterprise with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or annual balance sheet total, you are exempt from the requirements for services. According to the WKO, a pure information site with no booking or ordering doesn't fall under it at all. If your salon grows beyond these limits, the WKO says the booking and the route to it must be accessible.
Common mistakes on hairdresser websites
- You put your price list online as a photo or PDF. It's barely readable on a mobile, and Google can't read it.
- Your phone number isn't a tap-to-call link. Customers have to type it in.
- The online booking button only appears at the very bottom of the page.
- Opening hours on your website differ from your Google profile or Instagram.
- Vouchers are only available in the salon, although lots of people search for them online just before Christmas.
- Your Impressum (legal notice) is missing the professional title, Landesinnung and the reference to the Gewerbeordnung.
- The gallery shows stock photos instead of your own cuts and colours.
- Open positions and apprenticeships are only on Facebook, not on your own website.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Impressum on Instagram as a hairdresser?
Yes. According to the WKO, the information requirements of the E-Commerce-Gesetz (E-Commerce Act) apply to every form of electronic content, including social media. The details must be complete: name, address, contact, chamber membership, professional title, a reference to the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and the responsible supervisory authority. So check every profile you use to promote your salon, not just your website.
Is Friseur an unregulated trade?
No. “Friseur und Perückenmacher (Stylist)” (hairdresser and wigmaker) is listed in § 94 Z 22 of the Gewerbeordnung (Trade Regulation Act) and is a regulated craft. To get your trade licence, you therefore need a certificate of competence. Which training and exams are recognised is set out in the Zugangsverordnung für Friseure (access regulation for hairdressers). The Landesinnung der Friseure (regional hairdressers' guild) at WKO Steiermark can advise you.
Does my online booking have to be accessible?
That depends on the size of your business. Since 28 June 2025, the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz (Accessibility Act) also applies to appointment bookings through which a consumer contract is initiated or concluded. However, micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total are exempt for services. If you're above that, the WKO says the booking and the route to it must be accessible.
What goes in the Impressum of my hairdresser website?
As well as name, address, contact details and, where applicable, your UID number (VAT ID), § 5 ECG (E-Commerce Act) requires: the chamber you belong to, your professional title and the country in which it was awarded, a reference to the Gewerbeordnung with access to it, e.g. via ris.bka.gv.at, and the supervisory authority. That's your Bezirkshauptmannschaft (district authority) or the Magistrat. According to WKO Vorarlberg, the professional title is often missing, which can lead to an administrative fine.
